Washington D.C. Information:
This year, Brunswick Middle School will be traveling to our nation’s capital, Washington, D.C. Caring for this great number of students requires detailed organization, planning, and management. We have the best interest of your child at heart as we plan the 2022 trip that is scheduled for May 23, 2022 - May, 25, 2022.
Please understand that this field trip is a supplemental activity to our study of United States history and is not a mandatory field trip. Students participate on a voluntary basis. Some students may be excluded due to their behavior or academics during the school year. For all students not participating, a three-day alternative schedule of hands on projects, math, science, language arts, social studies, and reading will be planned and directed by our teachers. We do hope that all of the 8th grade students will be able to attend and will work with all families to make that happen.
The cost of this year’s trip is $478. This fee includes transportation via a major bus company, lodging in a quality, well-known hotel, all meals, entrance fees, where applicable, and a t-shirt to wear each day. In order to make the cost of this trip affordable to as many students as possible, we are offering plenty of advance notice.
Payment Schedule (cash, check (Brunswick City Schools) or paid online using My School Bucks:
1) Deposit of $150.00 due October 27, 2021
2) Final payment of $328.00 due March 18, 2022.
All students who wish to participate in the 8th grade BMS field trip to Washington D.C. must adhere to the Brunswick City School District Code of Conduct for the 2021-2022 school year. Violation(s) of the student code of conduct may/will result in the removal from participation in this trip.
A major selection criteria for student participation in the 2021-2022 BMS Washington DC field trip is the “maturity factor.” In order for us to feel comfortable taking a student to Washington, D.C., they must be responsible, dependable, respectful, and cooperative. These students must demonstrate the ability to follow rules, determine right from wrong, display self-control, and accept responsibility for their actions.
Beginning October 18, 2021 any student who is assigned two (2) or more placements in the Corrective Learning Center (CLC) or one (1) Out-of-School Suspension (OSS), regardless of the number of days, within the given school year, will be removed from the 2021-2022 BMS Washington DC trip.
